Primary School is located in the Traditional Authority Makanjira in Mangochi District and is one of the most densely populated and remote schools in Malawi. The school was founded in 1971 by the first missionaries and has received external support over the years from the Freundeskreis Zentral-und Ostafrika – now Freundeskreis Malawi from Hanover in Germany. It has built a teacher’s house and latrines and been helped with additional school blocks and textbooks.
In cooperation with the Freundeskreis Malawi from Hanover and with financial support from the Lower Saxony BINGO Environmental Foundation Germany, Action for Environmental Sustainability (AfES) implemented a one-year project in 2020 to provide additional water for the drinking water supply and the school garden using a solar-powered pump system.
In addition, the initiative has installed a greenhouse tunnel with drip irrigation system in the school garden to enable the students to grow high quality indigenous plant varieties. This will ensure and sustain the supply of vegetables and other crops to the school and the Makanjira community.
Action for Environmental Sustainability (AfES) was established in February 2007 and is registered by The NGO Board of Malawi, The Council for Non-Governmental organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and the government of Malawi as a non-governmental organization under the trustees Incorporation act
